Practice Information | friends of the practice Milton Abbas Surgery is very proud of their ’Friends of the Practice’, a group of volunteers who provide additional support to the patients of the surgery.
The volunteers help in a variety of ways including;
Transporting those patients to their surgery appointments who are unable to use public transport or do not have a suitable public transport service in their village.
Befriending and visiting patients who are isolated or lonely.
Carrying out shopping or other errands for elderly patients or those who are in need following hospital discharge etc.
Medicines deliveries to house-bound patients homes or to collection points in villages.
In recognition of the services they provide, the Friends of the Practice were presented with an ‘UNSUNG HEROES’ award in the 2005 North Dorset Primary Care Trust Awards ceremony.
Pictured are some of volunteers who attended the ceremony held at Kingston Maurward on 8th June 2005.
The Trust Chief Executive, Andrew Casey, said that without the help of the Friends of the Practice it would be difficult for some patients to maintain their independence.
