Practice Information | how to use our services improving access to the doctor by telephone triage
To see a Doctor
We operate a telephone triage system done by the Doctors.
Triage is a system whereby a group of patients is sorted according to the seriousness of their conditions so that their treatment priorities can be allocated between them.
Telephone triageis a system in which our Doctors have had a lot of experience in the Dorset out of hours service (formally D-Doc and DECS, now UCS) and has been found to work very well.
Total Doctor Telephone Triagemeans that all patients who phone the Surgery wanting appointments for the Doctors are asked for a contact number. The call is then passed to one of the Doctors who is able to agree with the patient an appropriate appointment, give advice, a prescription or the appropriate response to their need.
Emergency calls are dealt with immediately and all other calls within 30 minutes.
Advantages of a triage system
Patients are able to speak directly to the Doctor.
In many cases patients needs can be met over the telephone.
Everyone who needs an appointment gets one with the appropriate member of the team.
