Urgent, Same Day Appointments

If you have an urgent problem and need to be seen on the same day you can attend the urgent walk in clinic held by our advanced nurse practitioner. The location of our walk in clinic will vary so you may want to call the surgery first. This is held between 09:00 and 10:30  and 16:00 -17:00. You must give the receptionist your details when arriving and they will add your name to the list, anyone arriving after the cut off time will not be seen during that session. We will aim to inform you how many patients are before you, but please be aware patients with a higher priority may be called in sooner. If you wish to see a specific doctor please book an appointment in advance.

Choosing The Most Appropriate Person To See

Many things traditionally seen by a doctor can now be dealt with by our nursing team. The nursing team is led by our advanced nurse practitioner Carol Rowland. You can make an appointment to see Carol for any illness. She will assess your condition, prescribe any medication you may need, or refer you for further care or a second opinion. Other members of our nursing team are able to assess and give advice on many conditions such as urine infections, rashes, skin conditions and infections. If they are unable to help with your specific problem they will either speak to the doctor on your behalf or ask a doctor to give an opinion.

A Routine Appointment With Any doctor

If you need a routine appointment and do not have a preference for a specific doctor you will often be able to be seen within the next few days. Please remember that all doctors do have access to your records and will discuss any long term problems with your usual doctor if necessary. Therefore, there should be no problem if your usual or preferred doctor is not available within the timeframe that you need to be seen.

A Routine Appointment With A Specific doctor

If you wish to see a specific doctor for a non urgent appointment you can book this in advance. Often requests to see a specific doctor can not be met on the same day or even within a few days. Therefore, we suggest that you plan non urgent routine appointments in advance and give us as much notice as possible.

Home Visits

If possible please try to telephone reception before 10:30 if you require a home visit.

A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

Home visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the surgery.

Neighbour Car Scheme

The surgery supports the local Neighbour Car Scheme which is a volunteer service for those who don't have transport. You can register with the scheme for a £5 registration fee, there after you will be charged 45p per mile for journeys to the surgery. To join this scheme contact the transport co-ordinator Nigel Hodder on 01258 881709.

• Try to tell us as much as you can when booking an appointment so that your appointment is with the most appropriate clinician.
• Be as flexible as you can.
• Use the walk in surgery appropriately, this service is for patients with a medical problem that needs to be assessed on the same day.
• Please be punctual. If you are unable to keep your appointment with the doctor, nurse or for a special clinic please let us know as soon as possible.
• Please do not leave prescription requests at the branch surgery.
• Only ask us for services we can provide – phone social services directly about home care, bathing aids etc.
• Give us your comments and suggestions about our services - use the forms and boxes in each waiting room; tell your PPG member.

GP Training

We are a teaching practice. From time to time the doctor will have either a final year medical student or an F2 doctor sitting in with them during the  consultation. If you would rather they were not present during your consultation, please make the receptionist or doctor aware.
