Transport

Neighbour Car Scheme

The surgery supports the local Neighbour Car Scheme which is a volunteer service for those who don’t have transport. You can register with the scheme for a £5 registration fee, there after you will be charged 45p per mile for journeys to the surgery. Neighbour Car is also happy to take patients to other medical appointments such as hospitals, dentist, opticians etc. To join this scheme contact the transport co-ordinator Nigel Hodder on 01258 470333 (please leave a message and they will call you back) or send an email to [email protected].

Non Emergency Patient Transport

HTG UK is the provider of planned non-emergency patient transport services for patients who are registered with a GP in Dorset. They provide this service when you need to attend an NHS-funded appointment at a hospital or clinic and, because of your medical condition, you cannot make your own way.

If you need to book transport, or you are a relative or carer booking transport on behalf of a patient, please call the Patient Transport Advice Centre (PTAC) on 01278 727457. A call handler will then assess whether you are eligible to use patient transport by asking you a few simple questions about your medical condition and mobility needs.

Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme

You may be able to claim a refund under the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS) for the cost of travelling to hospital or other NHS premises for NHS-funded treatment or test arranged by a doctor or dentist. To qualify for the HTCS, you must be receiving one of the qualifying benefits or allowances, or meet the eligibility criteria of the NHS Low Income Scheme.
